Discover Étel and its ria
Étel is first and foremost a small town on the water's edge. This former cannery, whose history is recounted in the Musée des Thoniers, is a lively port with free fest-noz and concerts all summer, and a very pleasant setting for a drink overlooking the sea.
The area's tourist appeal is also due to the unique landscape of the Étel ria, which surrounds this commune in the south of France. Gulf of Morbihan. This 22km-long arm of the sea begins at the Étel bar, a spectacular, windswept outcrop of sand, and enters the land via a suddenly very peaceful river.
A walk along the ria d'Étel
On either side of the ria are a succession of sites offering breathtaking panoramic views. At the Étel semaphore, directly overlooking the island of Groix, you can admire the prowess of the kitesurfers from a huge beach. Go back up the western slope in just a few minutes and you'll find yourself in Le Magouër, Plouhinec's historic district. The beach here is intimate and sheltered, with shallow, crystal-clear water.
Admire the astonishing boat cemetery and the Gallo-Roman villa at Mané-Vechen, then continue on to the emblematic Lorois bridge and the Port Niscop cove. Then comes the highlight: Saint-Cado in Belz, with its famous little house with blue shutters set in pastel-coloured water.

What to do in and around etel
The water activities There's no shortage of activities in Étel, whether you're looking for the thrills of kitesurfing or the peace and quiet of a kayak trip in the ria. It's also the perfect environment for hiking, with easy-to-access signposted trails, for example at Saint-Cado or between Étel and Erdeven.
Megalithic sites to see near Étel
Erdeven is a commune to remember if you enjoy cultural and historical visits. You can walk among the 190 menhirs of the Kerzerho alignments and admire some huge specimens! This is just one of the many sites on this "megalithic coast", as not far away are the famous Carnac alignments and the no less remarkable Crac'h alignments, offering a great outdoor family activity.
Quiberon Bay
Étel lies at the western end of the Quiberon Bayrecognised as one of the most beautiful in the world. All around you are superb beaches interspersed with caves and wild coves. There's something magical about Quiberon, set at the very end of the peninsula facing Belle-Île. We love it for the beauty of its period villas as much as for its hiking trails.
Plouharnel is less popular, yet the commune echoes its neighbour, Carnac, with both interesting megaliths and long beaches perfect for board sports. Just next door, La Trinité-sur-mer is a big draw for sailing enthusiasts, with a harbour that has an excellent reputation.
